Overview

Discovery is a studio for growing readers, writers, and thinkers — blending strong core skills with hands-on projects, outdoor learning, and meaningful work.

Discovery is a developmental bridge. Learners deepen core skills, build independence, and learn how to work with focus — while still keeping play, movement, and curiosity at the center.

Core Skills + Quests

Discovery follows a steady weekly rhythm:

  • Core skills (reading, writing, math)
  • Quests (project-based learning)
  • Quests typically run 4–6 weeks and end with an exhibition for the community.

Literacy Support

Learners are grouped by readiness — particularly in reading and writing — so they can receive appropriate challenge and support

Discovery Studio Approach

  • A balance of core skills and project-based learning through Quests
  • Socratic discussions to deepen critical thinking skills
  • Opportunities for learners to ask questions, explore ideas, and build curiosity about the world through deep dives in quests
  • Support for learners in developing the tools and habits needed to become lifelong learners
  • Increasing ownership and autonomy over their work and learning
  • Small-group support to meet learners at their developmental readiness
  • A studio culture that encourages deep thinking, collaboration, and personal responsibility
  • Guides who mentor, challenge, and support learners as they grow in confidence and independence
